We are Constantin and Nadine, and we’d like to give you an insight into the activities of a “SWISS Experience Trainee”.
Flight Schedule
The trainee programme for Bachelor graduates lasts one year, and consists of three different assignments. We spend the first five months working in a department at the SWISS main base in Zurich-Kloten. This is followed by two months at a Ground Station abroad. Finally, we spend a further five months in a different department in Zurich-Kloten. In all our assignments, we are responsible for part projects and provide support with various daily activities. The rotations within the company give us a broad insight into both the company and the aviation industry. Our first project assignment in Switzerland is coming to an end, and our adventure “abroad” is about to start.
Inbound connection
We have already been able to gather professional experience in Switzerland and international experience while studying. Now, in the aviation industry with SWISS, we are on new ground. Nadine studied “International Management” at the Fachhochschule St. Gallen, and spent a semester in Chile as part of this. Constantin studied “International and EU Law” in The Hague in the Netherlands. Our fascination for the dynamic airline industry and its complex associations, combined with a passion for travel, are what brought the pair of us to SWISS.
First stop ZRH
Nadine
My first project assignment was with the Marketing Communication Campaigns Team. This department is responsible for planning and carrying out the SWISS advertising campaigns at home in Switzerland and abroad.
I was involved in various campaigns, and was also responsible for two campaigns on the Swiss market. I was in constant close contact with other departments who were also involved, as well as our advertising agencies. I also had regular contact with the SWISS marketing contacts abroad.
As well as coordinating the campaigns, reporting was another major task of mine. I analysed the performance once the campaigns were completed and derived optimisations for the next campaign. I was also involved in optimising the reporting, which added to my knowledge in the application of KPIs.
Digitalisation plays a major role in the campaigns, and they were mostly played in online channels. As well as taking the new channels into account, the individual requirements associated with advertising in various countries were a challenge when planning.
Constantin
For my first position with SWISS, I was with Revenue Management. I was able to experience the early stages of a major project within the Lufthansa Group. I was also involved in regular exchanges with colleagues in Frankfurt and Vienna in price optimisation projects and for new concepts. I was able to submit my own ideas, which of course was extremely enjoyable!
I think I joined the Revenue Management team at SWISS at the best time. The role of computer-based models is increasing. They enable us to achieve greater precision with price optimisations, which in turn is reflected in better results for SWISS. I would love to be involved in similar target-orientated projects in the future.
Next destination
The next step for both of us is an assignment abroad: Nadine is going to Singapore, Constantin to Bangkok. Neither of us has ever spent much time in Asia, never mind working there. We are looking forward to experiencing the various cultures and to the challenges that await us there. We’ll be working with Arrival / Departure services at the various stations, and be involved in the ground processes. We already received specific insights into this in Zurich in January, when we visited all these aspects with the handling partners of SWISS, and we were also able to accompany a Duty Station Manager.
Last but not least
Nadine and Constantin want to take this opportunity to thank Isabel Silva, who is responsible for the “Young Talents” at SWISS and who supports the “SWISS Experience Trainee” programme.
The programme would not be possible without Isabel. From the beginning we had exclusive insights into SWISS, and we can contact her for anything. Very many thanks, Isabel, for organising all this and for the fabulous support.
