This is your pilot speaking
A warm welcome on board, dear guests and followers of @flyswiss. Come with me into the cockpit for an insight into my everyday life as a long-haul pilot. Although it’s a life that can’t possibly be described as everyday!
I’ve been a commercial pilot with SWISS for over nine years now, and I thoroughly enjoy the fascination of flying in my office above the clouds. Back then, in the autumn of 2010, I was able to take off with my dream job and for the first time took over the controls of a passenger aircraft. An evening flight took me to Berlin and back. It was a day that I will never forget, and I still get emotional when I think about it today. For the first six years, I was a First Officer on the Airbus A320 flying the European network. And now, for just over three years, I have been flying our Boeing 777 to almost every corner of the earth. Far-flung places like Los Angeles, Miami, Hong Kong, Bangkok and São Paulo are on my duty roster. However, my working life also includes exciting challenges on the ground as well as flights to far-off destinations: as an instructor, I train colleagues for duty on the “Triple Seven” both in the simulator and in the classroom.
This month, I’d like to show you that there’s much more to being a pilot than “just ” steering an aircraft. Working together with a large number of people, operating a highly complex machine in a dynamic environment, the privilege of first-class views, and getting to know foreign cities and culture play equally important roles in making the job what it is.
Are you ready to take off into May at full throttle? I look forward to sharing my fascination for flying and my job with you.
Always happy landings

PS: To ensure I am able to devote myself entirely to the cockpit during the flight, as with all the Instagramer contributions, my pictures are taken on permanently installed cameras or from the jump seat.
